📝 Day 104 — The Room You’re Not Invited To
Most of today was Christmas.
Rehearsals. Checklists. Last-minute adjustments.
Everything looked normal.
That should have been reassuring.
🎄 The Surface
Santa moved through the halls with practiced ease.
Elves smiled.
Lists were confirmed.
The Holiday Alliance was not mentioned.
Neither were the doors.
Christmas takes precedence.
It always does.
🤦♂️ Stupid Knows Something
Stupid found me near the records room.
He was unusually serious.
That should have warned me.
“They’re meeting,”
he whispered.
“And I don’t think they meant for me to know.”
I asked who “they” were.
He said,
“All of them.”
🚪 The Wrong Hallway
He led me down a corridor I’d never used.
No decorations.
No foot traffic.
Just quiet.
At the end was a door without markings.
No lock.
No handle.
It opened anyway.
🕯️ Inside the Room
Santa stood at the center.
Jack Marrow leaned against the far wall.
Cupid was there too.
Not glowing.
Not performing.
Just present.
No one looked surprised to see me.
That was the worst part.
👁️ What I Wasn’t Told
Santa didn’t speak at first.
He looked at me the way you look at a decision you’ve already made.
Jack watched the doorway.
Cupid watched me.
I realized then that this room existed whether I was in it or not.
And that I was only here because someone had decided I should be.
No explanations yet.
No reassurances.
Just three figures who do not meet unless something matters.
Tomorrow is Christmas.
And tomorrow, I find out why I was invited.
