You Don’t Have to Carry It All Today

📅 Apr 9 ⏱️ 5 min read 🏈 Week 15 • Day 4

One thing the business has taught me over time is this:

You don’t have to carry everything today.

But early on, I didn’t see it that way.

Everything felt urgent.

Every order.
Every deadline.
Every problem.
Every decision.

It all felt like it had to be handled right now.

And what happens when you try to carry everything at once…

is you overload yourself.

Mentally.
Physically.
Emotionally.

That’s where I started developing what I now call my philosophy of “Unpacking.”

Unpacking means this:

If I’m carrying too much weight…

I take a step back and ask myself—

What actually needs to be carried today?

Because the truth is…

a lot of what we’re carrying isn’t for today.

It’s for tomorrow.
Or next week.
Or something that hasn’t even happened yet.

And when you try to carry tomorrow’s weight today…

you make today heavier than it needs to be.

I’ve learned how to recognize when I’m over my weight limit.

You can feel it.

You’re thinking about too many things at once.
You’re rushing decisions.
You’re getting frustrated faster than usual.

That’s your signal.

That’s when it’s time to unpack.

Not quit.
Not walk away.
Just unload what doesn’t need to be held right now.

Sometimes that looks like:

Spreading installs out instead of stacking them too tight.
Giving yourself an extra day instead of forcing a same-day turnaround.
Reprioritizing what actually needs attention today.

And pushing everything else to where it belongs.

Because here’s the reality:

You can’t carry yesterday’s weight.

You shouldn’t carry tomorrow’s weight.

All you can carry… is today’s.

And when you do that—

something changes.

The pressure feels lighter.
Your thinking gets clearer.
Your decisions get better.

You’re not reacting anymore.

You’re operating.

That’s the difference.

Strength isn’t just about adding capacity…

it’s also about learning how to manage the weight you are carrying.

And part of that is knowing when to unpack.

Because if you try to carry everything…

you won’t just slow down— you’ll eventually break down.

But if you learn how to carry what matters today…

you’ll keep moving forward.

And in business…

that’s what actually wins.
