Sometimes We Ignore Red Flags Because We Want the Outcome Too Badly
One thing I’ve realized over time is that most red flags usually aren’t invisible.
A lot of the time…
we noticed them early.
The communication felt inconsistent.
The accountability felt weak.
The pressure around the situation felt unhealthy.
Something about it felt off internally.
But sometimes we keep moving anyway.
Not because we’re stupid.
Sometimes because we’re hopeful.
Sometimes because we’re loyal.
Sometimes because we want the opportunity badly.
Sometimes because pressure convinces us we need it to work.
And emotion has a way of negotiating with warning signs.
I think this happens constantly in business.
Hiring decisions.
Partnerships.
Customers.
Growth opportunities.
Leadership situations.
Deep down, something doesn’t fully feel aligned…
but we convince ourselves to override it.
Sometimes because slowing down feels inconvenient.
Sometimes because saying no feels expensive.
Sometimes because we’ve already emotionally invested ourselves into the outcome.
That’s usually where discernment starts getting blurry.
I think one of the hardest leadership skills is learning how to stay objective after becoming emotionally attached to a result.
Because attachment changes perception.
It makes us minimize problems.
Rationalize inconsistencies.
Ignore patterns.
Delay difficult decisions.
Especially when pressure is involved.
And honestly, I think most people reading this have probably experienced that in some form.
In business.
In relationships.
In leadership.
Maybe even personally.
Sometimes the red flag wasn’t hidden. We just wanted the outcome too badly.
That doesn’t mean every difficult situation is automatically wrong.
People grow.
Situations improve.
Communication can get healthier.
Mistakes can be corrected.
But wisdom usually requires honesty first.
Especially honesty with ourselves.
The longer we build this business, the more I realize discernment is less about becoming paranoid…
and more about becoming honest enough to acknowledge what we already feel underneath the pressure.
Because ignored red flags rarely disappear on their own.
Most of the time—
they simply become more expensive later.
