Apply Some Pressure

Not All Pressure Is Bad

Most people talk about pressure like it's something to avoid.

And I understand why.

Too much pressure can wear you down.

Too much pressure for too long can make everything feel heavier than it should.

We've felt that ourselves lately.

Business is busier than it's ever been.

We're moving into a new shop.

We're training a new installer.

We're trying to build better systems.

We're creating content, serving customers, and trying to keep the vision moving forward.

That kind of growth brings pressure with it.

But the longer we build this business, the more I realize that not all pressure is bad.

Some pressure is necessary.

Some pressure wakes you up.

Some pressure forces decisions you've been delaying.

Some pressure reveals that the way things used to work may not be enough for where you're going next.

Without pressure, we might stay in a season longer than we were supposed to.

Because if we're honest, comfort can be sneaky.

Comfort feels safe.

Comfort feels familiar.

Comfort feels easier in the moment.

And if nothing creates urgency, most of us will naturally drift toward what feels comfortable.

Not because we're lazy.

Not because we don't care.

But because pressure usually asks something from us that comfort doesn't.

Pressure asks us to grow.

It asks us to build better systems.

It asks us to communicate more clearly.

It asks us to train people better.

It asks us to lead differently.

It asks us to stop relying on habits that only worked in a smaller season.

That's not always fun.

But it is often necessary.

Some of the systems we use today only exist because pressure forced us to build them.

Some of the leadership lessons we've learned only happened because pressure exposed what needed to change.

Some of the growth we're experiencing right now exists because a previous season pushed us to adapt.

Pressure doesn't always mean something is wrong.

Sometimes pressure is evidence that something is growing.

That doesn't mean every kind of pressure is healthy.

Some pressure needs to be reduced.

Some pressure needs to be questioned.

Some pressure needs better boundaries.

But some pressure needs to be respected.

Because it may be the very thing helping you become capable of the next season.

The goal isn't to live under constant pressure.

That's not healthy either.

But the goal also isn't to build a life or business where we avoid every uncomfortable thing.

Healthy growth isn't learning how to avoid pressure.

It's learning which pressures are building you and which pressures are breaking you.

And sometimes the pressure we keep trying to escape is the same pressure God is using to grow our capacity, sharpen our leadership, and move us out of a season we've already outgrown.

What Healthy Actually Looks Like

Healthy growth doesn't mean avoiding pressure completely. Sometimes it means learning how to recognize the difference between pressure that is building you and pressure that is breaking you.

Because comfort may feel easier, but pressure often reveals the growth that comfort would have allowed us to avoid.
